Medications

There is a wide variety of medications available to treat different forms of heart disease and their risk factors and symptoms. You can find specific information about these medications under Heart health A to Z.

The medication your doctor may recommend will vary depending on what specific condition, symptom, or risk factor is being treated. If you have the signs of heart disease risk factors, such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure, your doctor may recommend medications, such as aspirin, even if you don't have heart disease.

You should know, however, that many herbal or natural remedies and supplements may interfere with the medication your doctor is recommending for you. If you are taking, or thinking of taking, any herbal products such as echinacea, or even garlic, you should talk to your doctor about possible interactions with your prescribed medication.
